- In order to
解釋: 為了…(某件事)..，in order to可放在句首或句中；置於句首時可用來加強語氣，並且通常用逗號與後面的句子隔開。
EX: Sherry went to London in order to study economics.
= Sherry went to London to study economics.
雪莉為了學習經濟而去倫敦。
2. In other words
解釋: 用另一種方式來表達同一件事，使讀者更容易了解，或是要強調那一件事。有「換句話說」的意思。
EX: “Frogs are amphibians. In other words, they live on the land and in the water.”
青蛙是兩棲類。換句話說，他們可以在陸地和水中生活。
- To put it another way
解釋:這也是「換句話說」的一種說法，可以用來解釋比較難的觀點，用比較簡單的方式解釋，讓讀者能更容易了解。
EX: “Plants rely on photosynthesis. To put it another way, they will die without the sun.”
植物依靠光作用存活。換句話說，沒有陽光，他們就會死亡。
- That is to say
解釋: 為「也就是說」的意思，可以用來補充之前所提過的細節，或做更深入的解釋、說明。
Example: “Whales are mammals. That is to say, they must breathe air.”
鯨魚是哺乳類。也就是說，他們必須仰賴呼吸而活。
5. To that end
解釋: 為「為了達成某目的」的意思，也可以寫作「to this end」
EX: “Zoologists have long sought to understand how animals communicate with each other. To that end, a new study has been launched that looks at elephant sounds and their possible meanings.”
動物學家積極去了解動物溝通的方式，為了達成此目的，一分最新研究大鄉聲音與其代表意義的報告發表了。
- Moreover
解釋: 為「並且、此外」的意思，通常放在句首，來補充額外的資訊，也可用「Furthermore」或是「What’s more」來替換。
EX: Moreover, this isn’t the only evidence that supports this hypothesis.
此外，目前並沒有任何證據可以支持這個假設。
7.Likewise
解釋: 為「同樣地」的意思，通常用來舉出另一件同樣可以支持你的論點的事。
也可以用「Similarly」代替。
EX: Audiences reacted with shock to Beethoven’s new work, because it was very different to what they were used to. Likewise, we have a tendency to react with surprise to the unfamiliar.
觀眾對貝多芬的新作大感震驚，因為其與以往的風格不同，同樣地，我們常會對我們不熟悉的事物感到驚訝。
8.Another key thing to remember
解釋: 也可以寫作「another key point to remember」或是「another key fact to remember」，來表示另一個額外的重點。
EX: “As a Romantic, Blake was a proponent of a closer relationship between humans and nature. Another key point to remember is that Blake was writing during the Industrial Revolution, which had a major impact on the world around him.”
身為一個浪漫主義者，詩人布雷克支持人類與自然之前的親密關係。另一個重點則是，在工業革命時期，他的作品對世界有很深的影響。
- Firstly, secondly, thirdly…
解釋:「第一；第二；第三…」的意思，用來解釋說明有哪些點子。
EX: “There are many points in support of this view. Firstly, X. Secondly, Y. And thirdly, Z.
這有很多支持這觀點的論點，第一…；第二…；第三…
10. Not to mention/to say nothing of
解釋: 為「更不用說…」的意思，用來補充額外的資訊，或是用來強調某事
EX: The war caused unprecedented suffering to millions of people, not to mention its impact on the country’s economy.
戰爭對數百萬人帶來前所未有的苦難，更別說其對國家經濟的影響了。
