Get the ball rolling 會議開始
會議開始前，大家三三兩兩進入會議間，閒聊天氣、週末的活動，此時主持人站到簡報台前，說：
All right, let’s get the ball rolling.
（好，開始開會吧。）
這時大家安靜下來，因為會議即將開始。get the ball rolling 顧名思義，要讓球滾動，因此有開始進行，並且希望順利運作的含義。
On the ball / drop the ball 在掌控之中╱失職、未達成
同樣又是球的比喻，會議中當有人對你說：
Make sure you are on the ball with this evaluation report.
（你務必確認這份評估報告沒有問題。）
此時，可要打起精神、提高警覺，因為 on the ball 可是有負起責任、由你掌控的意思，在商用英文中非常常見。
與 on the ball 恰恰相反的就是 drop the ball，既然弄掉了球，當然不會是好的意思，表示你沒有完成該任務，或者讓對方失望了。
例句：
Don’t drop the ball.
（別搞砸了。）
One project team member dropping the ball can cause the whole team to fail.
（專案中任何一個成員的失敗，將導致整個團隊的失敗。）

除了商務會議討論使用外，on top of that 也常見於生活用語，並有加強語氣的輔助之意。
The workload is heavy this month, and on top of that, factory orders are also increasing.
（本月的業務量很大，除此之外，工廠的訂單也增加了。）

例句：
Q: How did you know Tom was going to be promoted?
（你怎麼知道湯姆要升職了？）
A: Well, I heard it through the grapevine.
A: A little bird told me.
這表示回答者並非直接得知，而是經由某些管道輾轉收到消息，有種辦公室八卦的味道。A little bird told me 有隻小鳥跟我說，還帶有些俏皮的風格。
Give / take the credit 歸功於….、功勞
credit 在這裡可不是信用，而是指功勞，意思是某事成功都歸功於某人，或做得很好，給予他人表揚使用 give，而自稱或者邀功則用 take。
例句：
I’ll give you credit for that.
（這都是你的功勞。）
I can’t take the credit for all the work.
（我不能說全部都是我一個人的功勞。）
He always takes all the credit for group work.
（他總是拿團隊的工作去邀功。）
